STACKIT: European Data Sovereignty at Its Best
In our last newsletter article, you read how STACKIT has evolved from the in-house cloud of the Schwarz Group aka Europe's largest retail group to the go-to solution for anyone who wants to rely on a secure and sovereign cloud for their data.
Data sovereignty is a particularly important component of sovereign clouds. STACKIT understands this to mean cloud infrastructures that, thanks to their implementation, can guarantee that cloud users have full transparency and control over who stores, views, processes, and deletes data, and when. So how does STACKIT ensure maximum data sovereignty?
Location Germany: Geography Matters
STACKIT's legal domicile and data centres are located in Germany and thus in the EU. This guarantees GDPR compliance, for one thing. Even more importantly, the EU location excludes access by third parties. You can only remain data sovereign if a cloud provider is not subject to the Cloud Act. The latter applies to US providers that operate worldwide and allows US authorities to access all data if necessary. With a location in Europe, users can be sure that their data is protected against this.
Open Source Instead of Vendor Lock-in
STACKIT relies on open and de facto standards, i.e. open source, for its technologies. This avoids the notorious vendor lock-in, where cloud users are technically or economically tied to specific products or services. With STACKIT, users remain independent and able to act, as they can transfer all or part of the processing of their data into the hands of others. This means they avoid high migration costs and have full control over their data at all times.
Confidential Data Processing and Secure Backup Solution
The more secure, the better: in addition to data sovereignty factors EU location and open source, STACKIT is one of the few German providers to offer Confidential products. The company is also part of the "select group" of providers that are certified by the backup provider VERITAS. This allows customers to store their backups directly with STACKIT and thus remain secure and sovereign in this regard, too.
Maximum Security
Read in our next newsletter article how our dual security concept of geo-redundant infrastructure and economic and political independence makes the STACKIT Cloud the "Fort Knox" of cloud computing.
